Slow Down

Psalm 46:10 says, “Stop striving and know that I am God” (NASB).

Stop striving. Be still. Stand in awe. Don’t worry. Slow Down.

There are many ways we could take this verse. The context, of course, is how God in his exaltation will bring an end to war on earth. Yet, while we wait for that day, we have wars in our hearts, minds, and souls as well.

It’s easy for us to feel the tyranny of the urgent and rush around like mad men and women, never stopping to enjoy the moment. We’re the Marthas of Luke 10, in a panic to do stuff when Jesus wants us to take a moment, sit at his feet, breath, and listen.

If that’s you, take a breath and say a prayer. Ask God to slow you down for a few moments. Bask in the sunshine. Smell a flower. Listen to the birds sing. Slow down and enjoy the love of God.
